  • There are approximately 225,000 horses in Virginia.
  • Virginians spend $2,800 per horse per year for maintenance, or $680.5 million in direct expenditures to support horses.
  • Virginians spend an estimated $126.8 million annually for the purchase or lease of horses.
  • Virginia uses 4.7 million acres of land for their horses; this land has an assessed value of $5.9 billion.
