Virginia Horse Journal
Poll Question:
Recession in the Virginia
In April of
2008 we published the results of a poll question as to how the
recession affected your equestrian activities.
Our 2008
Poll Results Showed:
· 32% were affected greatly
· 50% were affected somewhat
· 18% not at all
Almost two years later we are in one of the worst recessions in
memory. The implications for the Virginia horse industry are
worth considering. As an industry we are dealing with a decline
in real estate values, high feed and hay prices, declining
income, horse sales at a virtual standstill, lost jobs and much
more.
Economist's
opinions are mixed as to whether we have bottomed out and will
begin to see some growth. How fast that growth will be is
anybody's guess.
Do you see any economic rebound in the Virginia
horse community?
Greatly ___
Somewhat ___
Not at All ___
We want to hear from you!
Our readers are the best indicators of how the
Virginia horse community is doing in these troubling times.
Comments from our readers, businesses owners, and horse owners on
their experiences and thoughts regarding the recession would be
most appreciated. Send us a few sentences to describe how you
have had to change your activities to get through these tough
times.
We will publish the information in our April issue. You may send
the information anonymously or ask that we do not publish your
name. Your comments will be valuable to the Virginia horse
community to help us succeed in this depressed economy. Please
let us know your thoughts.
Please
send your
comments by March 12 to vhj@virginiahorse.com, fax to
540-351-0279, or mail to Virginia

Ending Thoughts - The
Value of the Trot
It is the trot that is best suited for obtaining and preserving
impulsion. At the same time it improves suppleness and develops
obedience, for the rider can influence his horse better in the
trot than the walk where the natural impulsion is lacking or in
the canter where the horse can easily become tense.
Alois
Podhajsky
(For more information on the trot read Master of Equitation
on Trot
compiled by Martin Diggle available from Trafalgar Square Publishing.)
